This ipe roof deck is part of a complete and very environmentally aware transformation of a rundown warehouse building in the heart of a broad range renovation of the downtown Portland warehouse district.

The client in this project required FSC® certification for as many wood products as possible. The ipe decking came from Bolivia. The lengths were short reflecting the smaller trees that grow in the drier forests west of the Amazon basin. The client understood that shorter lengths contribute to the long-term sustainability of the forest resource. The end result is a very beautiful deck that is not compromised by using lengths no longer than 3 meters.
